Interview: Julia Meek with Arts United's Dan Ross

Arts United of Greater Fort Wayne is one of the oldest united arts funds in the United States. It functions  as an umbrella organization for more than 70 nonprofit arts and cultural organizations in the area, typically staying busy behind the scenes, while its partners take the spotlight.

In this interview, WBOI’s Julia Meek turns the tables on Arts United Development Director Dan Ross to find out more about the state of the organization.

Extended Interview: "The Peacemakers"

The International Day of Peace is Saturday, September 20th, and Fort Wayne musicians are commemorating the occasion with a special, Midwest premier of Karl Jenkins' The Peacemakers.

The show includes the Heartland Chamber Chorale, Heartland Festival Chorus and Orchestra, and the Fort Wayne Children's Choir singing the words of some of history's great peace advocates.

WBOI's Julia Meek sat down with the Chorale's Maestro, Robert Nance, and soloist, Lori Sandstrom, to find out more about The Peacemakers.

Better Picture, More Films: Cinema Center Goes Digital

Cinema Center in downtown Fort Wayne is known for showing movies you might not see elsewhere – everything from old classics, to indie films, and documentaries, to name a few. 

On Friday, Cinema Center patrons will see those movies in a new way: the theater has made the transition to digital projection.

That means no film, no reels, and no moving parts in the projection booth.

The change might seem small, but it means better picture quality and a wider selection of films for movie-goers.

Governor's portrait unveiled

Governor Mitch Daniels poses with his official portrait, unveiled Tuesday. The Indiana Governors Portraits Collection now totals 53 such works.

As Governor Mitch Daniels’ official portrait was unveiled Tuesday, he says he hopes the accomplishments of his administration will far outlast Hoosiers’ memory of him.

The portrait shows Daniels standing in his office, without a suit coat, leaning against a chair and holding a pen in his hand.  Lafayette native Richard Halstead, one of 43 applicants, was commissioned by the Indiana State Museum to paint it. 

Halstead says Daniels had only one request – that the painting not be artificial or unnatural.

Arts United introduces consolidated box office

Arts United introduced its new ArtsTix Community Box Office Friday.

Five of Fort Wayne's arts organizations will soon share a single box office and a new online presence.

At a media event Friday morning, Arts United President Jim Sparrow announced the creation of the new ArtsTix Community Box Office.The system will allow patrons to buy tickets for the Fort Wayne Ballet, Philharmonic, Civic Theatre, Youtheare and Dance Collective at a single ticketing location. The initiative will also add online ticketing for those organizations.
