What kids are eating in their school lunches has been a topic of discussion since the School Nutrition Association was created in the 1940s. That’s because the guidelines are always changing.

New rules handed down earlier this year from the United States Department of Agriculture focus less on calories and fat and more on whether all the food groups are being served.

State conservation leaders explore major changes

Indiana conservation leaders are considering some big changes in funding and organization.

Indiana’s soil and water conservation leaders are exploring significant changes to the funding and organization of the state’s conservation efforts.

The Conservation Beyond 2016 Task Force was created several months ago in response to what it says were concerns over drops in conservation district funding.  

Much of the money comes from counties.  But over the last four years, funding has stagnated or decreased in more than 40% of Hoosier counties.

Hoosier jobless rate rises in July

The Bureau of Labor Statistics says Indiana’s unemployment rate increased for the second straight month in July even though the state’s private sector added jobs for the ninth consecutive month. But state officials say those numbers don’t add up.

Thirty-three hundred private sector jobs were created last month and government hiring surged, leading to an increase in total non-farm employment of more than ten thousand jobs.  But Indiana’s unemployment rate increased to 8.2%.

Nancy Hamilton, wife of former Rep. Lee Hamilton, dies in weekend accident

Nancy Hamilton, wife of former Indiana Rep. Lee Hamilton, died in an accident over the weekend.

The wife of former Indiana Rep. Lee Hamilton died this weekend after being run over by her own car. She died from her injuries hours later at the hospital.

Bloomington police captain Joe Qualters says 82-year-old Nancy Hamilton was taking her pet to College Mall Veterinary Hospital off east Third Street in Bloomington Saturday afternoon.

“When she went to retrieve her animal from the back of her car, apparently the vehicle had not been placed in park and was still in gear,” Qualters said. “It was determined the vehicle knocked her down but then also rolled over her.”
